“Let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:18, KJV)

The love revealed in Jesus is not a sentiment that stays safely inside us. It moves toward people with compassion, truth, patience, and practical help. Christ loved us sacrificially, and His life shapes how we treat family, neighbours, colleagues, strangers, and even those with whom we disagree. Love does not mean approving every choice or abandoning wise boundaries. It means seeking another person’s good in a way consistent with truth.

Today, make love specific. Listen without preparing your rebuttal. Keep a promise. Offer help that genuinely serves rather than controls. Speak honestly without humiliating someone. If reconciliation is possible and safe, take a humble step toward it; if a boundary is necessary, hold it without hatred. We cannot control how others respond, but we can choose integrity. The love of God is not merely a message we announce; it is a life we practise through the strength Christ supplies.

Choose one person to love through a concrete action today. Give focused attention, offer practical help, or speak a needed truth with kindness. Avoid using generosity to control someone or kindness to avoid an honest conversation. Love seeks another person’s good while respecting truth and appropriate boundaries. Ask Jesus to shape both your intention and your method, so that the help you offer genuinely serves.

Practical love pays attention to what a person actually needs rather than assuming that we already know. Sometimes the loving response is to offer help; sometimes it is to listen, speak honestly, or allow someone to take responsibility for a choice. Ask before imposing assistance, and respect the dignity of the person you hope to serve. Jesus joined compassion with truth, and His example keeps love from becoming either sentimentality or control. Let your kindness be concrete, thoughtful, and consistent with the truth of the gospel.
