“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, KJV)

Jesus invites the weary to come to Him, not to prove that they can carry everything alone. His rest is deeper than a break from activity: it is the relief of belonging to Him and learning His way. Some burdens are responsibilities we must carry; others are unnecessary weights created by perfectionism, people-pleasing, or the belief that everything depends on us.

Receiving rest may require practical changes. Notice your limits, protect time for sleep, pause from constant notifications, and ask for help when a responsibility is too heavy. Rest is not laziness when it restores you for faithful living. Coming to Jesus does not mean grief or exhaustion will instantly vanish. It means bringing your whole self to Him and learning to live from His grace rather than relentless self-pressure. Let Him teach you a sustainable rhythm of work, worship, service, and renewal.

Ask what is making you weary: a genuine workload, an unrealistic expectation, a burden you have taken on unnecessarily, or a need for support. Make one adjustment that honours your limits. Rest can include sleep, quiet, worship, a walk, or sharing the load. Come to Jesus honestly rather than waiting until you have recovered on your own. Receive His invitation and practise a healthier rhythm.

Rest begins with recognising that you are a person loved by God, not a machine whose value depends on constant output. Some demands are necessary, but others arise from perfectionism or the fear of disappointing people. Consider what can be postponed, shared, simplified, or declined responsibly. If exhaustion persists, seek appropriate practical or professional support rather than treating every limit as a spiritual failure. Jesus invites you to learn His way, which joins faithful work with trust in the Father. Receive rest as part of wise stewardship of the life He has given you.
