“Be strong and of a good courage… for the Lord thy God is with thee.” (Joshua 1:9, KJV)
Courage is not the absence of trembling; it is the decision to obey God while fear is present. Joshua faced a responsibility that could not be fulfilled by confidence in his own experience alone. God’s command was joined to God’s presence. The same truth steadies believers today: we do not invent our own authority, but we can act with confidence where Scripture has made the path clear.
Obedience may mean telling the truth when a lie would be easier, apologising first, setting a necessary boundary, beginning a difficult task, or standing against pressure to compromise. Courage should be guided by love and wisdom, not by the desire to appear bold. Ask what is faithful, loving, and yours to do. Then take the step without waiting for every uncomfortable feeling to disappear. Let the Word of God set your direction, and let the presence of Christ steady your steps.
Identify the obedient action you have delayed. Consider the loving and wise way to take it, and prepare for any discomfort without allowing discomfort to decide for you. Courage may be quiet: a truthful answer, a necessary apology, or a boundary spoken respectfully. Take the step prayerfully, and remember that faithfulness is measured by obedience to Christ, not by how impressive the action appears to others.
Godly courage does not require you to act harshly or rush into a decision. It may take courage to wait for the right time, ask a clarifying question, or admit that you need advice. Let Scripture, love, and sound judgment guide the step you take. Do not confuse pressure from people with a command from God, and do not use fear as a reason to neglect what is clearly right. The presence of the Lord gives you freedom to act faithfully without needing everyone’s approval.

Lord, I receive courage from Your presence and wisdom from Your Word. Show me the obedient step before me, and strengthen me to take it with humility and love. Keep me from reckless pride and fearful delay. In Jesus’ name, amen.
